Can phishing be foiled?
December 20 0 8 Over just a few weeks, I received e-mail messages from several banks warning me that my online banking services were in danger of being deactivated, from eBay telling me that I needed to change my password, from Apple complaining that I had unpaid bills for music downloads, from an airline offering me the opportunity to earn a quick $50 for filling out a survey and from the Red ...
متن کاملGene surfing
Spatially resolved genetic data is increasingly used to reconstruct the migrational history of species. To assist such inference, we study, by means of simulations and analytical methods, the dynamics of neutral gene frequencies in a population undergoing a continual range expansion in one dimension. During such a colonization period, lineages can fix at the wave front by means of a “surfing” m...
متن کاملElectrostatic backscattering by insulating obstacles
We introduce and analyze backscatter data for a three dimensional obstacle problem in electrostatics. In particular, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of these data as, (i), the measurement point goes to infinity, and (ii), the obstacles shrink to individual points. We also provide numerical simulations of these data.
متن کاملAcoustic Scattering by Inhomogeneous Obstacles
Acoustic scattering problems are considered when the material parameters (density and speed of sound) are functions of position within a bounded region. An integro-differential equation for the pressure in this region is obtained. It is proved that solving this equation is equivalent to solving the scattering problem. Problems of this kind are often solved by regarding the effects of the inhomo...
متن کاملSurfing on Calcium Waves
A key question in brain development is how migration of neuronal precursors is guided to establish the ordered laminar layers. In the April 20, 2007 issue of Cell, Guan et al. show that the leading process of migrating cerebellar granule neurons senses repulsive Slit molecules by generating a Ca(2+) wave that propagates to the soma to cause reversal of cell polarity and migration.
